A picture of meat. I just recently started playing (tried and loved West of Loathing, and that drew me here), and I’m really enjoying the game, but I feel like I’m having trouble finding a good pace for playing the game.I blew through the initial 200 adventures in a day or two of intermittent playing, and, since then, I log in, eat and drink to load up on extra adventures in addition to the default 40, and then play through whatever I have. At that point, I seem to be done for the day, so I log off and come back the next day.I admittedly don’t play a lot of browser games (the only other one I’ve ever really played is Fallen London, which I adore), but I guess I’m just used to the pace of playing a little, then checking back in after a few hours and playing for a few more minutes.
Instead, KoL seems to encourage a once-daily playstyle. Is that what most folks do? Or am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice!. I would say probably most players log in once a day, and don't log out until they've blown through pretty much all of their adventures and gotten falling-down drunk. The nature of the game doesn't require this, and you could probably log in for just half an hour during your lunch break, then come back to it later in the day when you have more time, but that assumes you can resist the just-one-more-turn temptation. If you're into PVP, you may find it helpful to log in multiple times a day to check on your progress, maybe fine-tune things here and there. Also, you'll want to equip an outfit that gives you a lot of PVP fights just before rollover, and switch out of it right after rollover. It's not like PVP in most games, since this is a turn-based game that encourages players to reset to level 1 regularly.
Instead, there are 12 mini competitions, and you need to try to raise your scores high enough to beat other players' scores. Check out the Huggler Memorial Colosseum in the Big Mountains to learn more. Each fight consists of 7 competitions, 1 of which is chosen by the attacker, with the other 6 being random.
If both players have the same score in a particular competition, the defender wins that round. Be forewarned, if you smash your Magical Mystical Hippy Stone, it'll let you attack other players, but it also opens you up to attacks. A successful attack allows the victor to steal certain kinds of items from the loser's inventory.

I typically log in after rollover. Hang out in chat and trade. And sometimes run my turns. I will then stick around and chat with clanmates or others until going to bed often while doing things on a nother monitor. I'll leave the game logged in overnight so I can see the chat logs.
When I get back from work the next day I'll skim the logs from clan chat. If I didn't run turns I'll do them then. What I didn't mention is when I do spreadsheets and write code.
Sometimes that is before or after turns. Sometimes that waits for the weekend.I usually play in large chunks.
If I run out of time, I might split along main paths. Like if im chaining 2d runs, I might do day 2 and take a break for a few hours before doing d1. Taking a break mid section encourages mistakes and forgetting things. I play Fallen London, Mousehunt and Kingdom of Loathing everyday, and it works well for me. They all have different types of gameplay, which is fun.

For Mousehunt, I check back every 15 minutes, which keeps me engaged, even if it's less exciting than the other two. Fallen London is more interesting than Mousehunt, but I prefer to stack up actions there, so I wait an hour or 2 before coming back. But like most people have said here, I hop onto Kingdom of Loathing near the middle of the day, and go ham. It works well while I'm waiting in LoL matchmaking.
